Case Study of the Week: The Need for Professional Development

May 1, 2023

Principles of Business Management and Administration

You are to assume the role of an administrative services assistant at Midtown Technical College. A co-worker has asked you why it’s important to take advantage of the company’s professional development opportunities.

The administrative services department schedules classes for professors, assigns classrooms, and tends to all class needs. Upper management works closely with the deans and is involved in campus decision making.

As administrative services assistants, you and your co-worker are offered many professional development opportunities. Midtown Technical College encourages employees by offering time off for professional development and covering all costs if the courses involve administrative services topics.

Your co-worker feels that professional development is a waste of time. You must explain to your co-worker why professional development is important and how it can lead to career advancement.
