Getting Into the Giving Season

Nov 1, 2025

As Thanksgiving approaches, thankfulness takes center stage, but for DECA members, it's more than just a feeling - it's imperative. Across the country, high school chapters have a unique opportunity to put thankfulness into action.

From food drives, service events, or acts of kindness within their own schools, members have the opportunity to use this time of year to positively impact their community while living out DECA's mission of leadership and service.

Service Starts with Community Awareness

Every community has a need. Some need food, while others require clothing or school supplies. Successful DECA chapters begin by identifying where they can make the most significant impact. Collaborate with local charities, shelters or food pantries to determine how your chapter can make a meaningful contribution. Even small efforts, such as hosting a canned food drive or assembling care packages, can have a lasting benefit.

Innovative Chapter Projects that Make a Difference

Not every service project must be the same. Some chapters host "Friendsgiving" events for students who don't have a house to celebrate, while others organize fundraising games in support of local charities. DECA members utilize their marketing skills to promote donation drives or apply their entrepreneurship skills to host community events.

Connecting Service and Leadership

Service is not separate from leadership; it defines it. Thanksgiving service projects provide DECA members with an opportunity to demonstrate leadership through initiative, teamwork and empathy. These experiences not only make a difference today; they develop skills that carry over to every competition and career.

A Season of Thanks and Action

As November advances, let's remember that the more we share gratitude, the stronger it becomes. Regardless of whether your chapter provides food, sends thank-you letters to community volunteers or takes a moment to express gratitude for one another, every service matters.

Together, we can make this Thanksgiving one of giving and growth.
