Goal Setting for Your Collegiate DECA Chapter

Jun 1, 2026

Before diving headfirst into working towards accomplishing your chapter's goals, here are a few important steps each chapter should take when setting goals.

Building a Strong Foundation

Get to know your team, including your advisors! Establishing a close relationship with one another is an important factor in building an effective team that works well together to accomplish team goals. In-person meetings can build relationships faster, but virtual meetings are encouraged as well!

Determine the strengths of each individual involved in your chapter’s future.

  • For example ➡ if you know someone on your team who is always on their phone, checking social media and responding to texts super quickly, encourage them to take on a communications role. If another team member is impressively organized and manages time effectively, encourage them to take on the events coordinator role.

When you do this with all members, everyone uses their strengths together to build the strongest team possible.

A Few Goal Setting Tips to Set You Up for Success

  1. Discuss S.M.A.R.T. Goals with your chapter.
  2. Seek opportunities for action! Ask “How early can we get to work on this?”
  3. Don’t let minor setbacks stop you from finding ways to meet your goals.
  4. Ask for help! The Collegiate DECA Executive Officer Team is a resource to help you reach your goals as best as we can.

You did it! Now what?

So, you finally put in all the hard work and accomplished what you set out to do, but what's next!? It is important to celebrate your goals. Whether they’re big or small accomplishments, taking the time to look at what you did can inspire you to be more appreciative of the steps you have taken. Let us know what goals you plan to accomplish to become the Next Big Thing!
