Since joining DECA, I have had endless opportunities to grow as a leader. DECA has not only taught me how to be a leader through seminars, mentorship and prime examples, but it has also provided me with countless opportunities to practice and strengthen my leadership skills in real-world settings.

Since joining Collegiate DECA, I have served in various roles, including mentee, mentor, coordinator, vice president, president and advisory board member. Each of these positions has helped me refine different aspects of leadership, from communication and problem-solving to organization and team-building.

Serving in these roles has also allowed me to contribute meaningfully to the chapter’s growth while fostering the success of those around me. As a mentor, I’ve guided newer members through competitions and professional development. As a coordinator and executive board member, I’ve helped plan events, secure sponsorships and manage the logistics that keep our chapter running smoothly.

Most importantly, these roles have taught me that leadership isn’t just about taking charge but empowering others to grow and succeed alongside you. Through collaborating with my fellow executive board members, I’ve gained valuable insights from their unique leadership styles and approaches. DECA has shown me that leadership is a continuous learning process, and I’m grateful for the experiences that have helped me grow as a leader and a lifelong learner.

To any new DECA members, I encourage you to dive into the leadership opportunities that are available headfirst and soak in every moment. You will grow immensely and learn a great amount from your peers.
