DECA and its partners offer $200,000 in scholarships to members each year. Here's how you can get your share to help fund your future education.
As a current DECA member, you are eligible to apply – you do not need to be a senior in high school! The process is two-fold. You will first start off by submitting your application online by January 14, 2022. If you make the final qualifying round, you will be required to upload additional materials (i.e., letter of interest, letters of recommendations, transcripts, etc.)
Use these three tips when working on your application.
1. Reflect on Your DECA Experience
Take some time to reflect on your DECA experience. Think about leadership positions you may have held, competitions or special awards you may have won, and even initiatives you may have led. Consider your personal DECA story. Most importantly, do not ignore the small awards – everything counts!
2. Start Early
Even if January 14 seems far away, the deadline will be here before you know it! With the holidays approaching, it's best to get started as soon as possible to give yourself enough time to reflect on your responses. It's also a great idea to have a teacher, parent or other individual help proofread your materials.
3. Ask Questions
Whether it's your DECA advisor, chapter president or alumni, don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it. Being part of a network is one of the things that makes DECA great. If you're unsure about what to include in your application, consider asking your advisor or fellow chapter members what they think makes you stand out in DECA.
Applications are due January 14, 2022, and every single DECA student is encouraged to apply! Use the tips from this article and you're one step closer to the possibility of earning a DECA scholarship!
