College orientation is more than learning where your classes are or even picking up your student ID. It is your first opportunity to build connections, discover campus resources and begin your next journey.
While all this can feel overwhelming, it can become some of the most exciting moments of your college career.
As an Orientation Leader at Transylvania University in Kentucky, I have had the opportunity to welcome incoming students and help them navigate transitions into college. One thing I have learned is that the students who get the most out of orientation are the ones who step outside of their comfort zone.
Here are a few ways to make the most of your orientation experience:
Attend your campus organization's fairs.
This is one of the easiest ways to discover organizations, meet current students/faculty, and find things that match your interests.
Introduce yourself to the people around you.
Whether they're sitting next to you during a session or sharing the same major, those first conversations can turn into your best friends.
Learn about campus resources.
From academic support and career services to recreation and student life, it's good to know all about your campus resources and the people behind them.
Sign up for clubs and organizations.
Getting involved early helps you build your community and impacts your college experience.
Many Collegiate DECA chapters participate in orientation and involvement fairs, giving new students the chance to meet members, ask questions and learn about opportunities in competition, leadership, networking and professional development.
For many students, Collegiate DECA becomes more than just another organization; it becomes a place to grow, make friends, and prepare for a future career.
