Every year at DECA's International Career Development Conference, thousands of members compete, network and grow. However, one of the most professionally valuable spaces often gets overlooked in the rush to prepare for competition: the Exhibit Hall. This year in Atlanta, more than 85 organizations are showing up specifically to meet you. From Fortune 500 brands and federal employers to universities and nonprofit foundations, the hall is a career fair, a college fair and a networking event all rolled into one.
Plan Before You Walk In

Walking into the Exhibit Hall without a plan is the easiest way to miss out. While the hall is open for two full days (April 26th & 27th), being intentional with your time makes all the difference.
Before arriving, download the DECA ICDC app to explore the exhibitor list and interactive floor map. Taking even 15 minutes to identify 5 to 8 organizations you are genuinely interested in can completely change your experience.
A quick search on each one will help you walk in prepared, confident and ready to engage in meaningful conversations.
For advisors, the exclusive early-access hour on Sunday at 8:00 AM is a valuable opportunity to preview the layout and guide members toward booths that align with their goals.
Make It a Real Conversation

What sets the Exhibit Hall apart is the people behind each booth. Every representative is there because they want to connect with students. Whether it’s a college admissions officer, recruiter or industry professional, they are not just there to hand out brochures.
Instead of simply collecting materials, take a moment to introduce yourself and ask thoughtful, specific questions. You don’t need a perfectly rehearsed pitch.
Being genuinely curious, engaged and present goes a long way and often leaves a stronger impression than anything scripted.
It is also worth stepping beyond the names you already recognize. Some of the most valuable opportunities can be found at less crowded booths, including those of professional associations, nonprofit organizations and service branches.
Don't Let It End There
The most underrated move you can make after the hall closes? Send a follow-up email. Collect a business card or scan a QR code, and within a day or two, send a short message thanking them for their time and referencing your conversation.
ICDC is more than just a competition; it is an opportunity to step into the professional world and start building connections that extend far beyond the conference. So go the extra step, and take full advantage of everything Atlanta has to offer!
