Teach Your Students About the Stock Market

Sep 16, 2021

The Stock Market Game is the perfect tool to help your students build a fundamental understanding of investing while providing them with real-world skills practice.

Hosted by the SIFMA Foundation, the online competition is free for DECA members. In teams of one to three DECA members, participants develop and manage a virtual investment portfolio of stocks, bonds and mutual funds. The event began on September 13, but there’s still time to register your students!

The Stock Market Game Teacher Support Center is a searchable library of curriculum resources, lesson plans, assessments and standards correlations that help you introduce your students to personal finance fundamentals, including saving and investing. Register now to access all resources, or use these tools to get started:

  • SMG Essentials Mini Lesson Videos on core financial literacy topics including introductions to investing, risk, diversification and more! All videos are three-six minutes long and include exit tickets.
  • SMG Training Videos cover a trading portfolio overview, the rules of the game and information on how to enter trades.
  • SMG Student Activity Packet is a perfect companion to the mini lesson videos and includes a financial terms glossary, fillable worksheets, and 101 introductions for stocks, mutual funds and bonds.

DECA and the SIFMA Foundation are pleased to provide their members with the DECA Stock Market Game and the Collegiate DECA Stock Market Game. The Stock Market Game is an online simulation of the global capital markets and engages students in the world of economics, investing, and personal finance with the goal of preparing them for financially independent futures. In the DECA and Collegiate Stock Market Games, teams of one to three DECA members are given a virtual $100,000 to invest in stocks, bonds, and mutual funds.  Team members must work together to build and manage a high performing investment portfolio.
