Whether retail or food-based, a school-based enterprise (SBE) is a must-have for a strong, connected and fully-realized DECA chapter. Typically known as school stores, SBEs allow members to learn real-world marketing and business skills like selling, promotions and communication. Besides the personal benefits, here are three reasons to get started now!
1. Connect with Your School
Students come to your in-person SBE for many reasons: grabbing a snack, dance tickets or maybe some new school apparel. Your school store will be the “place-to-be” during all passing times and lunch periods. This can easily be used to your chapters’ advantage. When running a fundraiser, your SBE can be used to promote, sell and incentivize all aspects of your fundraiser. You can also run membership drives and increase awareness of your DECA chapter through the store. What is DECA? Stop by the school store and find out! The possibilities are endless!
2. Increase Chapter Funding
Introducing an SBE to your high school comes with many financial benefits. The profits of your store will directly impact your chapter by providing funds for membership fees, conference registration, chapter apparel and countless other activities. Say goodbye to the days of endless door-to-door fundraising and say hello to your fellow students handing you cash for your SBE's goods and services.
3. Earn ICDC Academy Slots
When you complete all SBE program requirements and reach gold certification, your chapter will receive recognition from DECA Inc. and earn three spots for the SBE Academy during ICDC. This reward will make your hard work and dedication worth it as you enjoy a wonderful experience in Anaheim, California.
I wish you all the best of luck in your SBE adventures! Remember, have fun. Find what your school is missing and fill the void. You can always reach out to other chapters in your association to find out what works for them. With enough patience and DECA-cation, your SBE will be second to none and have your chapter ready for a #NextLevel year of DECA!
I look forward to seeing your SBE on social media. For more great ideas, check out highlights from chapters across the country with #DECASBEWeek (September 28-October 2, 2020) on social media.
