Lots of things happen in school like your math class, your english, and your chapter’s DECA meetings! But how about outside of school and in your community? If you want to connect your chapter with your community, here are 3 ways to expand your DECA chapter's reach!
Local Business Owners
DECA is a business club for entrepreneurs and emerging leaders, so why don't you talk to local entrepreneurs! A DECA chapter in upstate New York decided to reach out to local business owners to help put on a raffle to fundraise for regionals and for the State Career Development Conference. With the help of local business owners that chapter was able to raise over $500 in just 2 days!
Another way to incorporate local business owners into your DECA chapter is by having them help you practice for your role play events! The Greenville DECA Chapter brought in business owners from around the area to act as the judge while they practiced their role plays for regionals. This is a great way to get to know business owners in your area as well as to practice for regionals.
Community Events
If your community hosts events during the year this is a great way to get your town to know about DECA's mission as well as what your chapters goals are. At this event, you can set up a table with a trifold and some infographics about DECA. It's even better if you have your officers there so then the community can ask them questions and learn a bit more about DECA!
Hold a “How to Make Money?" Event for Kids
How to make money is a question that lots of young children ask, thinking that there is one direct answer. You can have your DECA chapter hold an event or meeting in your community geared towards children about how to make money! You can talk about things like creating a lemonade stand, or opening a bank account, and you can introduce them to DECA.
If you do these 3 things, DECA will become the NEXT BIG THING in your community!
