As an adult student at High Plains Technology Center (HPTC) in Woodward, Oklahoma, I have experienced firsthand the incredible benefits of joining DECA. My journey with DECA has not only provided me with essential skills for the business world but has also been a valuable way to stay connected with my son, who is currently enrolled in the Business Marketing program at High Plains Technology Center.
One of the most unique aspects of my DECA experience has been the opportunity to engage in the same activities as my son. While I am starting over and pursuing a career change, I am gaining new skills as an adult student, and my son is building a strong foundation for his future in business marketing at the high school level. Through DECA, we have found a shared space where our educational journeys overlap, creating a bond that strengthens our understanding of business concepts and opens up our conversations about the future of our careers.
Watching my son compete in DECA events has been inspiring. Participating in DECA contests as an adult member has enabled me to bring a fresh perspective. We share our experiences, offer each other tips and support each other as we work toward achieving our goals in the world of business. This mutual experience has been a gratifying aspect of both our lives.
As a High Plains Technology Center student, I have enhanced my business and marketing skills through DECA. This has proven to be one of the most impactful aspects of my education. The hands-on opportunities provided by DECA competitions and activities have allowed me to apply what I learn in the classroom to real-world scenarios.
As I continue my journey with DECA, I am reminded that learning never stops, and neither does the growth potential. Joining DECA as an adult has been a great experience that has enriched my personal and professional life. The skills, connections and confidence I’ve gained through this organization are invaluable, and I’m excited to carry them with me as I continue to pursue my goals.
Whether you're an adult student or a high school learner, DECA offers a path to success, and I encourage anyone with a passion for business and marketing to take that step. This journey is just the beginning, and I can't wait to see where it leads.
