Why You Should Submit
Members often look to DECA Direct Online for guidance and resources. They can take inspo from your chapter, use your advice to pick their competitive events or simply find a new way to Go The Extra with DECA. Following a record-breaking membership year, your story is more important than ever to help continue DECA's growth and members' experience.
What to Submit
Need a little inspiration to get started? Here are some potential areas for article topics:
- Chapter Events: meetings, fundraising events, community service
- DECA Programs: competitive events, chapter campaigns, SBEs, corporate challenges, scholarships, emerging leader series
- Conferences: district conferences, association conferences, leadership conferences, DECA Inc. conferences
- Personal Stories: DECA’s impact on your personal, school or professional life
Once you pick a topic to write about, dive deeper into what you want to highlight.
For example, if you’re planning to write about a fundraising event that your chapter held, ask yourself what you want to focus on about the event. Is it the overall timeline of preparing and executing the event? Or is it key takeaways? It could be highlighting the experience through multiple members’ POVs.
Regardless of the direction, here are some best practices to consider while writing your article:
- Be Organized: Make your information flow logically.
- Be Catchy: Don't be afraid to get creative with your titles and summary. This will help draw readers to your article.
- Be Visual: Include photos, videos and graphics (if applicable).
- Be Brief: Quality > Quantity. Use short sentences and paragraphs.
- Be Listy: Use bullets, numbers and sections to help keep readers interested.
- Be Professional: Utilize correct grammar and punctuation to best represent yourself + DECA.
- Be DECA: Last but not least, make sure your topic relates to one of DECA's many aspects!
