What Are FLCs?
As fall begins and the DECA year continues to take shape, one of the most exciting parts of the season is right around the corner: Fall Leadership Conferences! Better known as FLCs in the DECA community, these conferences are a great way for members to stay involved, build their skills, and connect with DECA during the fall.
One of the best things about FLCs is that no two associations do it exactly the same. Some focus on competition preparation, giving members a head start on role-plays, prepared events, and other competitive opportunities. Others fill their conferences with leadership workshops, networking,
and activities. Some are a mix of both! An FLC might last a few hours, an entire day, or even a full weekend. Every association has its own unique traditions.
Make the Most of Your FLC
No matter what your association has planned, come ready to make the most of it and have that “say yes” mindset. If you are attending as a member, step outside your comfort zone. Introduce yourself to someone new, participate in workshops, ask questions, and take advantage of any competition insights being offered. You never know what new ideas or connections you might take home with you.
For association officers, FLC season may mean a little more responsibility. Whether you are running workshops, speaking on stage, managing activities, or welcoming members, remember that your energy sets up the tone. Prepare ahead of time, stay flexible, and most importantly, have fun with it!
