Local chapters are some of the best support systems you could ask for, though building strong relationships with all members can be difficult. It’s important to realize that your success is attributed to a group effort while doing individual events. Here are ways to build a strong community within your chapter!
Event Preparation
Preparing members for competitive events is the focus of all chapters. This large amount of time being spent is perfect for enhancing interaction. Introducing a buddy or mentorship system is a great way to have members of different ages interact. More experienced students, potentially in the same event, can pass off skills to newer ones and have someone personally critique their paper or presentation. On a weekend before competition, you could host a lock-in day, where everyone gathers to put final touches on prepared events or polish up on their performance indicators.
Service Projects
Your DECA chapter can make a significant contribution to the local community together. By doing a service activity, you will feel good and share the same with others to create a bond. Volunteering at a local shelter or hosting a fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association are some ways many people can get involved to support one cause.
Success and Celebration
More than just competition and activities, actions members take in their chapter to recognize others go a long way toward building a strong relationship. You can have a chapter Member of the Month get a shout-out during your meetings for their contribution to group efforts. You can post about recent successes of members on your Instagram. Holding chapter celebration events, such as an end-of-the-year party, is great for breaking bread and relaxing with those around you.
Make sure to post your chapter activities with #BeTheOne and tag @decainc for a chance to be posted for #DECAFeatureFriday.
