The new school year starts off with many events to amplify the school spirit, including football games, pep rallies and, of course, homecoming. How can you Go The Extra to make these events, specifically homecoming, extra special for your DECA chapter?
Here are three ways to make the most out of it:
1. Follow the Theme
Many high schools incorporate a special theme for homecoming week; some common ones include Under the Sea, Hollywood Nights and Enchanted Garden.
Use the theme to host a DECA chapter decorating session! Decorate your DECA classroom, meeting room or hallway to follow your school’s homecoming theme and to practice working as a team with your chapter members.
2. Participate in School Spirit Activities
During homecoming week, it is common for schools to have dress-up days on each day of the week, such as pajama day, teachers and students swap day, or even Adam Sandler day. Encourage your DECA chapter to participate in these dress-up days to enhance the school spirit and to gain some fun photos as a DECA chapter.
Additionally, many schools may have events throughout the week, such as School Olympics, Dance Competitions, or Powderpuff Football to keep students engaged. Forming a team with your DECA chapter is a great way to learn how to communicate, have fun and make memories with one another.
3. Reconnect with Alumni
Following the traditions of the original homecoming, use this week to reconnect with your school's DECA alumni! Whether through highlighting them with an alumni success story, video-calling them for online meetings or even having them as a guest speaker, your DECA alumni are the foundations of your chapter's success, and this is the best time to celebrate them.
Homecoming week only happens once a year, make sure to Go The Extra and make the most out of your school's celebrations.
