As we approach your District and Association Conferences in preparation for ICDC 2023 in Orlando, Florida, there are endless ways to showcase your experience through social media. Hosting Instagram Lives, creating spunky TikToks and photographing action shots of friends during competition will document the lasting memories of your time in DECA. However, maintaining social media etiquette and timeless creations are still as important as ever. Below are five tips to remember as you pull out all the stops for social media shots this Spring.
1. Marketing 101
After learning about the basics of marketing in classes and projects, you are most likely very knowledgeable about maintaining a brand image. Quality, clean content - i.e., details about your written event journey, role play, new friends, funny moments and favorite eats, etc. - is the best way to build your personal brand. You are prepared for the conference; show your preparation and excitement through social media!
2. Tag! You’re it!
Tagging classmates, new friends, Association Officers, Executive Officers, your DECA Chapter/DECA Association and DECA, Inc. can expose your content to an entirely new audience that shares your passion for DECA. Find your DECA community on social media and create connections that will last a lifetime. In addition, tagging friends opens the door to collaboration. Are you inspired by a fellow DECA member’s social media? Do you want to create a video or post together? Start by asking!
3. Three E’s of Social Media
The three E’s stand for 1) entertaining your audience, 2) engaging your audience and 3) educating your audience. Whether you run a completely DECA-cated social media account, your chapter’s social media or are having fun on your personal account, find your purpose and stick to it.
4. Don’t forget to film.
It is the worst feeling to have a fabulous TikTok idea yet forget to start/finish filming. It is helpful to set a reminder on your phone to ensure you remember. You can also keep a list of ideas on your phone to always have content ready to create. Any time you think of an idea, just write it down!
5. Invite your followers to join!
Don’t leave your audience hanging! Invite your social media following to join DECA and the fun. Brushing up on your DECA knowledge and chapter guidelines for joining is a proactive way to be prepared for new members that are just as excited about your content.
This conference season, collaborate, create and connect with the DECA community. Remember, have fun with your content!
