1. Pick a career cluster that interests you
Choosing your case study can be overwhelming when looking at every event at once. Choose one of the five career clusters that best meets your unique interests and passions. The five career clusters are marketing, finance, hospitality and tourism, business management and administration, and entrepreneurship. After narrowing down the options by career cluster, look at the events offered and find which event best suits you!
2. Attend a case study prep session
Attending a case study prep session is a great way to get familiar with competing in DECA! At the session, you will learn tips and tricks from experienced competitors for solving case studies. You will also learn about DECA’s competitive event structure and have a chance to get your questions answered. Ask your chapter or state/provincial leaders when they will be hosting their next prep session.
3. Practice sample role-plays
Practicing beforehand is the best way to guarantee you will maximize your momentum come competition day! DECA offers sample case studies that are available for you to practice. Practice as if you are in the competition and ask another DECA member to provide some constructive feedback.
4. Know your structure
Once you feel comfortable practicing, you will notice you have developed a routine of how you solve a case study. Solving case studies according to your newfound routine will help you to be efficient in a timed completion setting.
5. Be prepared for competition day
Congratulations! You are now ready to maximize competition day. It is now time for all of your hard work to pay off. Above all, remember to have fun and to let your creativity shine through on competition day!
